Sowing Hope: Hearing, Respecting, and Supporting Our Veterans
Peaceful Living is extremely proud to present its next mini-conference Sowing Hope: Hearing, Respecting, and Supporting Our Veterans. There truly isn’t enough that we can do for our veterans to thank them for their service to the country and for the sacrifices they and their families make, but we can make sure we’re better equipped to show veterans all of the respect and support we possibly can. It is Peaceful Living’s hope that this mini-conference will help equip us to better understand the needs of veterans and respond with compassion, understanding, and an even more profound level of respect.

We are honored to have Ann Marie Donohue, Ph.D., as our keynote speaker for the evening. Dr. Donohue is the founder and faculty advisor of the Student Veterans Organization at Montgomery County Community College and contributing member to the 2007 Brain Injury Consensus Conference convened to provide recommendations for treatment and care for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with traumatic brain injury. Ann Marie has become a champion for veterans returning home from war zones and helping them reacclimate to their communities. Her presentations for the evening will include “From War Zone to College Campus: An Invisible and Emerging Population,” and “Veterans and Homecoming: Issues in Transition and Community Response,” and will focus on welcoming veterans into, or back into, your faith community when they return from duty.
It is a great privilege to also have Captain Tracy W. Burke (USMC – Former) and his wife Dawn M. Burke as our distinguished guest speakers. They will be focusing on navigating the transition from military to civilian life from the perspective of the veteran and spouse, how to avoid awkward communication, and how to support military families, especially during deployment.
There will also be a panel discussion featuring Dr. Donohue, Capt. and Mrs. Burke, and veteran Ken Ziegler who will team up to answer any questions you may have. Mr. Ziegler served in the 24th Infantry Division with the 3rd Combat Engineers Battallion in the army from 1953-55 and served in Korea on the 38th Parallel during the Korean War.
